Air Management and System Pressurization
Air in hydronic systems can cause many problems, including corrosion, noise, reduced pumping capacity, and air bound coils. In this seminar, we'll review these problems, and discuss how to resolve them.
Primary Secondary Systems
In this seminar, we'll review correct primary-secondary piping, the purpose of the common pipe, and the reasons this system is so commonly used. To gain a better understanding of how a primary/secondary system operates, we'll look at the operation of an example in detail, examining chiller loads, chiller staging, flows, and temperatures.
Variable Primary Chilled Water Systems
The advantages being promoted for these designs include lower first costs, lower pump operating costs, and the ability to cope with "low delta-T syndrome". In this seminar, we'll review how variable-primary systems work, and discuss piping and controls options.
Pump Cavitation and NPSH
Cavitation can cause many pumping problems: pump impeller damage, the pump curve will change drastically, flow can virtually cease or "slug", pump shafts can be broken, and seal failure can occur. In this seminar, we'll discuss how to recognize and solve cavitation problems.
How to Pick a Centrifugal Pump
A comprehensive review of all centrifugal pumps types typically used in hydronic systems. We discuss where to apply each and the different options available.
Modern Pump Selection
Examines how a pump that is selected to operate at a higher efficiency during part load can significantly decrease pump operating cost. We will review pump affinity laws, pump curves, control curve, part load efficiency values and efficiency islands.
Variable Speed Pump Control Strategies
Evaluates five (5) different methods of controlling variable speed pumps in closed hydronic systems along with general guidelines on when to apply each.
System Syzer
How to Pick a Cooling Tower
Cooling towers come in multiple configurations with many accessory choices. In this presentation we will look at these along with reviewing the different fan drive systems and the advantages of each.
How to Select a Cooling Tower
Reviews cooling tower fundamentals and an example system along with a strategy to evaluate cooling tower selections based on life cycle cost.
Cooling Tower Piping and Control
Learn how to pipe multiple cooling tower cells. We will also discuss condenser water temperature control and staging.
Cooling Tower and Condenser Water Piping
Basic review of cooling tower piping practices including flow balance for multiple cells. Also covers cooling tower pumping design with a brief discussion of NPSH requirements.
Concrete Basin Cooling Tower Design
The cold water basin is the most critical component to the life of a cooling tower. A concrete cold water basin is the best choice to maximize its life span and can have a 30 year plus life. We will look at how to design your cooling tower plant for the highest efficiency and longest life.
Condensing Hot Water Systems
Second Generation High Efficiency Condensing Gas Boilers have become an economical choice for energy efficient hot water heating systems. Initial costs for condensing gas boilers are now lower and energy consumption can be reduced with a condensing system approach.
Condensing Boiler Piping Design
The proper system piping design and application is essential for energy efficient trouble free operation. this seminar we will examine multiple ways to design the system piping for a condensing boiler system and the advantages/disadvantages of each.
Waterside Economizers and ASHRAE 90.1
ASHRAE 90.1-2013 mandates that each cooling system having a fan shall include either an air or water economizer. This presentation examines how to properly apply and size a waterside economizer.
Key Impacts of ASHRAE Standards on Waterside Design
The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that State energy codes should use ASHRAE Standard 90.1 requirements. This presentation will discuss the changes this will impose on water side design.
Hydronic Balance
This presentation looks at the importance of flow balance in a hydronic system and review the balancing devices that are available, including pump triple-duty valves, manual balance valves (e.g. circuit setters), and automatic balance valves.
Packaged System Design
Have you ever used a pre-packaged system design? In this seminar we discuss the advantages to using a pre-engineered skid mounted hydronics system as opposed to piecing together the parts on a job site.
Pipe Thermal Expansion
Reviews the forces and movements caused by dimensional changes resulting from changes in pipe temperature, and discuss.
Introduction to Geothermal Systems
This presentation reviews why geothermal is gaining momentum, geothermal basics, the water source heat pumps cycle and different variations of the geothermal system. We will then examine the advantages of geothermal and look at typical applications.
Reducing DOAS in WSHP Applications
This course covers WSHP system design with bipolar ionization to reduce outside air requirements using ASHRAE IAQ procedure. We will also look at latent dehumidification mode utilizing integral unit hydronic modulating reheat.
Hybrid Geothermal Systems
A hybrid geothermal system in moderate to southern climates is one of the most energy efficient systems available. We will look at by adding mechanical heat rejection to a geothermal design, you can substantially reduce the size of the geothermal heat exchanger thus inital cost.
Steam Systems and Characteristics
Review of the basic steam cycle and system, characteristics of steam, temperature and pressure relationships and flash steam.
Steam Traps
A detailed look at how F&T, thermostatic, bucket and thermo disc traps work. We will also look at trap application and sizing.
Steam Distribution and PRV Valves
Review of distribution pipe selection and sizing. It includes Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) and Safety Valve sizing.
Humidification Basics
Reviews the basics of humidification and discuss application tips and common pitfalls. We will also review load calculations and different humidification product types.
Domestic Water Pressure Booster
Calculate the required system flow and pressure for an example system. We will also look at how to select a pressure booster along with sizing the hydropneumatic tank.
Hot Water Recirculation
Examine how to design and size a hot water recirculation system. We will also discuss recirculation balance and strategies for recirculate in high pressure applications.
Sump and Sewage Lift Stations
Review air and oil filled motor designs, submersible pump types and applications . We will also look at an exampe and use fixture unit count to determine pump capacity, sump and control design.
